JPMorgan Chase & Co. Data Breach

After a good summer break, we’re back for Data Protection Fridays and this story was too big to pass up.  On Thursday, JPMorgan Chase & Co. reported that they suffered a compromise of customer information for about 76 million households and 7 million small businesses.

You can read about the details from this article (Update: article is no longer available from MSN), but there’s a good lesson here and that is even the biggest companies get hacked too.  And security is not a function of how much money you have either: big and small companies get hacked all the time.  Remember, you have to defend all possible ways into your systems — hackers just have to find the one that you missed.

Speak to you all again next Friday,
